So in the forest i created i have te camera flying around. The auto-orient works great till till the camera goes up and looks down. Trees tilt and go into obj. Is there a way with expressions to look the objects X and Z properties or is there a better way to do it.

    the shot

The camera comes out of a house….flys through the forest looking all around a people walking in the forest. Vast land in AE.

thats it but the camera move is pretty wild….what you guys think. any ideas….thanks

Try copying the position keyframes of your camera to a 3D null
and shift that null a few frames earlier,

now instead of AutoOrient along path, orient the cam towards point of interest,

use the pickwhip to tie the Poin Of Interest position to the position of the Null.

Since the Null starts it’s move a few frames earlier than the camera, the camera is effectively looking at where it will be in a few frames time, so it should be looking a lot like orient along motion path, the fewer frames between the null and the camera, the ‘tighetr’ it will look ahead in bends and such.

Now, when the camera starts to go up, throw away those keyframes of the Null, and hand-position it where the camera should look at.

    Oh darn,

you’re not having problems with the camera’s auto-orient, it’s the objects that allways face camera…

Dan answered this in teh following thread last month:

how to orient-to-camera using only 1 axis
