Hi guys and gals, I seem to be having a problem with a comp I’m putting together, my client wants to have text scrolling across the screen quite quickly from right to left which is not a problem, but it doesn’t matter what speed it goes nor how I output it I can’t seen to get rid of a jittering/strobing effect that it seems to have when I load it in to Avid and she don’t like it… :o(
I’m working in DV Pal 25fps, I have tried motion blur, speeding it up slowing it down, loads of different output modes, Tried it as an avi, QT, Targa, PNG, Jpg sequence, and I’m running out of logic… Any advice would be great.
Thanks, knowing my luck it going to be something really simple and I’ll be kicking myself for a week but you know how it gets some times, can’t see the wood for the trees type stuff…
Why does frame blending pop in to my mind? is that anything to do with it? I think my brain just melted…

    Thanks again
    Aaron

Well, Frame Blending is more if you have changed the speed of a clip in a comp (an overly simple explanation). Motion Blur is more of what you might be looking for.

Does it look ok in a preview within AE?
Does the rendered output look ok when viewed in say quicktime player?
Are you rendering with an alpha and then laying this text over some other shot in Avid?
Is the AE output file being rendered in Avid as well?

I know some times I forget the simplest of things. It’s at that point when I only feel superior and not my usual vastly superior self 😉

This is a longshot but is there a field problem, or maybe the last part (an expression to make sure the corners of the text fall exactly on a pexel value)? This from an earlier post from Filip:

Square vs. Anamorph should only affect the horizontal scaling, not a problem with a vertical scroll.

Q: Did you render the animation out without using Fields ?

Using Fields, it will look crappy on the monitor, but much smoother on a video. (if you choose the correct field-order !)
If you’re not outputting to film or the web (other media than TV or DVD), absolutely render with fields.

I always add a gaussian or fast blur of less than a pixel (0.25 – 0.5) to any text layer.

Also, many people add an expression to the position after setting the keyframes so the text will always fall exactly on a pixel value and no differences in anti-aliasing of text occur from frame to frame.

    the expresssion is:

    [value[0], Math.floor(value[1])]

    Sometimes this gives better results:

    [value[0], Math.floor(value[1])] + [0,0.5]

do some short test-renders with each of these tips, and decide what works best for you.

Hey there guys… Thanks for the response and tips, They were great. Good stuff there I had not thought about, and I know I will use them in the future.
After a lot of brain melting and fighting with field order, I figured out that for some reason AE (I don’t know how) was rendering out the video in the comp lower field first but the text upper? (that
