    hi there
im having a bit of trouble getting to grips with the motion curves in ae7. all i want to do manually adjust the spline tangents for the keyframes of a motion graph (the x and y, not the speed graph) in the same way that you can when editing any graph controling some other parameter. when i use the convert vertex tool on this graph it does nothing. im used to the graphs in combustion and maya, if this makes any diference.
    many thanks,
    alex

Yeah, I’ve asked the same question before and found out that the graph editor in After Effects is only a time and speed editor. I was a little annoyed when I found this out and felt a little cheated into thinking that the new 7.0 “Graph Editor” feature was more like I guess wha I was used to in 3D apps, but it wasn’t.

Anyways, the short of it is, you can’t change the position coordinates of a layer using the graph editor. Unless there is some expression way that someone might have made up, but I don’t know if that is possible. Probably not what you wanted to hear, wasn’t what I wanted to either.

You may wish to consider using three expression control sliders, and tying the layer’s X position to one, the Y to another, and the Z to another. Then you can animate the sliders, and mess with their graphs in the timeline.

If I get your meaning, that is.
