  • AE7progressively started crashing on Open Project (diff prob then other CC users) help!!

    Hi,

A week ago, a problem started occuring when opening my current AE 7 project. When I tried to load it, it went up to a 100% but then a few seconds passed and the whole program vanished into thin air, no error notice nor crashing warning. But at other times after, during the week, the project would open, without a problem.

Then it started to become more frequent. For some reason, I tried a different old AE7 project and it loaded fine. Then, I tried back to open my current one, and it worked. So it sort of become a habit that when my project wouldn’t open, I’d just open an old one, and then comeback to the current to continue to work.

But now the trick doesn’t work anymore, it just won’t *freaking* load up. Aside from once just earlier this night, and almost seems out of random luck… So basically I can’t continue working, and it’s making me crazy, espescially being so close to the end of the intensive project…

(And when it was working and I could continue to work, not everytime, but like 3 times at least, when I watched a preview segment in loop mode, and stopped it with the spacebar as it can be done, prog here as well totally vanished out).

So all day I tried various options:

1-As I was using plug-ins like “trapcode shine” and heard that they needed to be updated for AE7, I did put the new installer on. No change.

2-Said, well, I’m up to reinstalling the whole AE7 and did. No change.

3-Spybot(ted) the PC in case of strange viruses. No change.

4-Removed the OpenGL aex as it was mentioned it might be a problem, even though not using it, I did remove it. No change.

5-Defragged my C drive and G (Hard disk drive where the larger files are). Although the big one had big segments fragmented, the clean up made : no change.

6-Restored my system to a previous date when it wasn’t conflicting like that, and it just got worse! First off, when the PC opened it mentioned that it just recuparated from a serious error. Next up, I simply just couldn’t open AE as it mentioned a new message which I haven’t found any info here.
*After Effect Error : missing global text resources 76 :: 0

Fortunately, once restored back to my current state, it “just” would be as defective as it is right now…

As ANYONE here has any IDEA what the hell is going on…??? Since I got this new computer and new AE7, I’m just accumulating the problems. And as for anyone, this sort of seemingly irrational problem has to happen when you’re just about to complete your project. A 3 year one in my case, and it’s just killing me right now…

As always, the creative cow members have been very good and helpful to me, so I thank you very much in taking time to sort this mystery out with me. And I’m sorry for the novel I just wrote, I’m just trying to be as clear as possible to avoid wasting your precious time too. And please excuse my awkward english!

    Truly deeply sincerely,

    Pat

My system is: AMD 64 dual core 2.2 GHz – 2GB RAM – NVIDIA GTX 7800 firmware 8.1.8.9

Ok. I managed to redo my “trick” by opening an older unrelated project, close it, then came back to my current one.

So it opens and can work on it. But I got a crash again by stopping a preview with my spacebar.

PLUS NOW, an addtional CRASH major annoyance : As I frequently save to avoid other crashing surprise, I just got slapped in the face with the obvious: 1 times out of 3-4, AE7 crashes on me while it tries to SAVE! And then the project is no longer openable.

I have never had such impossibly ridiculous problems with any programs in the 10 years I’ve been playing with computers. So at this point, I’ll try and hope I can finish this project somehow, but believe me, I AM DEFINITELY GOING BACK TO AE 6.5 after. No chance in hell that I’m gonna touch this thing until the next .5 upgrade. Unless SOMEBODY tells me I’m completely in the wrong and have a good pile of arguments!

Next try now is to upgrade nvidia firmware from 81.89 to 84.21 for my graphic card EN7800 GTX

    Firmware didn’t do anything.

BUT I had an idea to take my hard drive and try it out on my previous computer with very little things installed.

The project opened correctly, but was missing lots of effects from plug-ins. So, I installed them back onto this machine one by one. To realize that all my trapcode plug-ins were making AE7 crash on this project. YET, I had previously upgraded them from the website. PLUS a new bug occured, I had to remove Eye Candy too as it cannot load the project either… And I mean, Eye Candy is an age old plug-in that has work on just about anything since 1999, and which I never had a problem with until this day.

So now, all of what was working before just started going down gradually up until this point where not only those Trapcode are not working, but Eye Candy too ( I only had the “glow” effects in this one (well, on lots of different layers, still, it shouldn’t change anyhting).

I even tried downgrading back to my old version, but NOW there’s a new error message:

“3D stroke” has global outflags2 and PIPL flags are 7.

Thank god this is SO understandable… I did found one post with the same error message, but unfortunately no additional info on how to correct it. Thread can be found here: https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_read_post.cgi?forumid=2&postid=855955

—>Then decided to still, reinstall the newest 3D stroke, and open a new project to try it out. And guess what… It worked.

So a deduction at this point is that the Trapcode plug-ins and Eye Candy plug-ins have decided “slowly” to crash it out because they don’t like “something” in my project… Could be a combination of plug-ins together, but how am I supposed to know which???? I got a bunch of them and they all were working fine before! Plus they are all used in so many comps…

The worst is that they are used in a very traditional fashion, i.e. without crazy expressions and whatnot.

It’s been a full 3 days trying to get out of this nightmare… Any insight ANYONE???
