replicating a still slide projector effect in after effects
Any idea how one can go about replicating a still slide projector effect in after effects? I have a bunch of pictures that I want to give an effect in such a way that the viewer is watching stills projected from an old school slide projector.
I have tried making a black mask with feathered edges and made the still images rotate a bit and slide onto the screen. But this does not look realistic at all.
Please Help.

The best way to emulate anything is to get hold of the original and study it. In case you can’t do that:
Slides either dropped into place or slid horizontally into place. It was an up/down or left/right motion. Only viewmaster discs rotated into place, so don’t make the slides rotate.
They moved quickly between slides — maybe 1/3 to 1/4 second.
The screen frame went black in-between slides.
Sometimes there was a subtle hotspot in the center of the slide … a sort of gradient brighter in the center.
The corners of the frames were often curved (chamfered?filleted?)
The 35mm slide images were always 24x36mm (3:2 aspect ratio).
Some were “landscape” (wide), some were rotated to “portrait” (tall).
Sometimes there were tiny hairs or fuzz around the frame.Does that help?

Thanks Steve, that really helps. I think what i really wanted to go for was the viewmaster look for than the slide projector…using real images to slide into place is not really wroking for me.. any idea how i can make an image project onto a black background so that the center of the image has that bright hotspot created by the projector?
