    My comp looks fine at 100% in after effects but after rendering (H.264) and upoading to youtube the individual characters look too compressed. I can probably guess why. If I’m rendering at 1280×720 and youtube has to compress it then I guess text is going to look compressed in their viewer – even when HD is selected. Am I right? So how does one get around this problem? Will another font help?

    And while I’m at it how can you make sure users view our vids in high quality – those url addons (&fmt=18 etc) don’t seem to work anymore.

    What does “squishy” refer to? Is it the size/aspect of the font or are you talking about compression artifacts (jagged edges)?
    YouTube will re-compress any footage you upload, so the best is not to use the YouTube presets in any compression software you use for your final render, but to upload a high quality file- CBR instead of VBR, 30-50Mbps or even higher, at least 720 but best 1080.
