Am I nuts or is it common for Motion Graphics artist to crank out 6 minutes of animation for $4,000? I’m a 3d guy and I was mouth-agape when the client kept rejecting estimate refinements until we hit my floor and he admitted they’d been paying their last guy $1,000 for 90 seconds of animation.
Admittedly, it was simple, elegant animation… but still, I would expect the knowledge to crank out 4x that amount at 1920×1080 would be worth more.
    Am I wrong?

Those price points are insulting at best.

That client is full of shit. I’d tell them if they can find someone to do it for that pathetic budget they should keep using them and stop wasting your time.

I wouldn’t do 6 minutes of black for that price.

I second Matthew’s thoughts exactly. I do 60 for about that much at 720p. The company I usually work for, sells the videos for something between $8 and $12k.

There’s a site for motion graphics companies and their average prices. Like a collective, if you will. Not sure if this is it, but it might be a good starting point https://startup-videos.com/designers/
