  • Repair Compression Artifacts?

    Hi,

I’ve recently been asked to pull some excerpts from a longer recording of a live event
however the only remaining copy of the live event footage is the version which has been compressed for online viewing.
So there’s some blocky artifacts & at times not all the elements of the speaker’s face are aligned / updated properly
(not sure the exact terminology for that effect)
    i.e. looks like a higly compressed h264 / mp4 youtube thing

Does anybody know of a decent, simple fix to repair this sort of artifact?
I have read of some DV artifact repair plug-ins, but was not sure this would be appropriate for my problem because it’s not merely aliasing. Also I was hoping for something either free or utilizing AE’s normal components. I have access to AE CS6.

The footage does not contain a lot of motion, the background is all black, and the excerpt is only about 40 seconds, so I thought it might be possible to finesse it some, just to get it looking a bit better.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    best,
    -russ
