  Dashed stroke on non-shape layers

  Is there a way to apply a dashed stroke on a layer other than a shape? For example a pre-comp with some solids and masks or a pre-comp from a layered psd file? I would like to animate a character with the puppet tool and apply a dashed stroke on it.

  Thanks for your response.

  I am trying to apply it on a transparant black image, but not seeing anything. Even with the mode “Image Contours” selected.

  You have to specify which contours it should use. If the image is black, the Red channel would be pretty useless. Try the alpha instead.
