Depth Matte
Maybe this can already be done, and I just haven’t found a way to do it yet, but I was wondering it is possible to create and use a depth matte from a regular black and white image.
Right now, it seams After Effects will only allow a depth matte from embedded 3D renders. But, let’s say I have a person who walks from background to foreground, and I have a matte of them. Is it possible by changing the grey value of that matte from black to white if I can use that as depth information?
I’ve seen them create depth mattes in movies all the time. And these are mattes that are mixed with 3D renders and rotomattes. Such as when they have a person walk through fog. The matte grey value changes from grey to white.
