    Hey all,

Im sure thsi question has been posted thousands of times, but i am looking to upgrade my video card from whatever is standard in my G5 dual 2, to something that will alow AE and Combustion to run faster and dual screen suport as a bouns since my tower (for whatever reason appl does not includ dual scree suport in the towers) only has 1 DVI port. Any advice would be great. I think my budget is between $600 to $1000.
    Cheers

Nvidia 6800 Ultra or ATI X800 are nice.

Ok Cool, these seem to be reviewed well. However since I have been asking around, it seems i may not need a new card for performance in AE and Combustion, only for 3d are theese necesary. Would you say this is true, or would i be better off with a new card?
Thanks for your help, i wish I was a litell more hardware savy.
    Cheers

As of 6.5, there is very little OpenGL support in AE. It’s only used when you are in OpenGL mode to see clips in 3D. But since it is more often than not that there are not that many layers in AE an average card seems to work pretty well. In 3D apps where the entire viewport is rendered in OpenGL, the Vid card is extremely crucial. Especially when you get to high poly count. Especially things like when you instance objects to particles, that will crank your poly count through the roof. A great vid card can take it (until it’s just ridiculous) where an average card will choke.

    And video games rule!
