    Hi-
I’m trying to create a lit neon sign look for text in AE, with a fairly convincing appearance…
Is this something I need to model in 3D, or is there an AE solution?
Also, do you recommend any fonts that will help to achieve this look?
    Thanks for any advice

It might help to have a neon font for lettering, but this works on anything.

Look closely at some real neon and you’ll see that the reflections are usually a little different hue.

Use several blurs (glows) and offset the hue a little bit for a more realistic effect.

Also, lay the lettering over some convencing backgrounds.

A little practice and you can’t tell it from the real thing.
