  24p?

  Greetings,

  I have an upcoming shoot with a client who is requesting “1080i, non-native 24p. (We want the look but it’s not “real” 24p).” (whatever that means…)

  I’ll be shooting a 2700 with an HPX300, an HDX900 and a Z5 also in the mix. Just to make it as interesting as possible.

  In order to give the client video from the 2700 and 300 that most closely matches the HDX900’s 24p capabilities (regardless of the “non-native 24p” client request), does this look right?

  In the 2700:
  system mode: 1080/23.98/PsF
  rec format: AVC-I 50/24PN
  camera mode: 24p

  In the 300:
  system mode: 1080/59.94i
  rec format: AVC-I 50/24p
  camera mode: 24p

  This makes my head hurt.

  When you client is asking for 1080i, non-native 24p he wants to have a 60i format with a 3:2 pulldown from 24p in the camera.

  So you format option should be:

  In the 2700:
  system mode: 1080/59.94i
  rec format: AVC-I 50/24P (not 24PN)

  In the 300:
  system mode: 1080/59.94i
  rec format: AVC-I 50/24p

  PS: you should also check if your client wants AVC-I 50 or AVC-I 100.

  I wish I could do that, but I guess I can’t give the client what they are requesting.

  on the 2700, if I do 1080/59.94i, i then only have the option to do AVC-I 100 or 50 at 24PN. Native only…

  That’s why I was thinking I could go 1080-23.98PsF and then AVC-I 100 or 50 at 24PN….

  Same with the 300 – they both only DO Native in Rec Format. The only place that I can specify PsF is in the System Mode on the 2700

  Specifically, the 300 will ONLY do 59/94i in 1080 in the system mode and then 24PN in AVC-I 50/100 in Rec Format.

  Hence, my confusion…

  (is the hdx900 going to give them 24p in NON-native mode????)

  OK.
  After poking around a bit more, I may have it.
  I wanted to get both of the P2 cameras into DVCPRO HD to shoot the same thing as the HDX900.
  SO – went to Rec Format first and got both cameras into DVCPRO HD and then was selected the option of system mode at 1080-59.94i, and camera mode gave me either 24PA or straight 24P.

  24PA is what I selected in order to give the client their “non-native” 24P – correct?

  THAT should do it.

  If so, thanks for letting me talk this out and work through it….

  Yes, I had forgotten the option existed under DVCPROHD only, but dont forget you will be recording 8 bit with DVCPROHD vs. 10bit with AVC-I.

  Both are 4:2:2 in-case you want to do green screen work except for AVC-I 50 is 4:2:0.

  Either 24P or 24PA will give you non-native 24p timeline in the editor. The “A” stands for Advanced Pulldown created by panasonic. It is a cleaner process compared (3:2:2:3) to the standard pulldown,when the output is intended to for it to go back to 24p native out.
