  • Using HDX-900 as a deck to capture

I’ve used the HDX-900 before to capture footage over firewire. However, I did not utilize the pulldown removal to get 23.98. Is it possible to do that, or do you need a deck?

24pA is the same as 24pNative right?

No it’s 24p Advanced. This camera to my understanding shoots 24p and 24pA like the DVX100 and HVX200. So 24pA is advanced pulldown, and 24p is just standard pulldown.

With the HDX900, you can only choose between 24P & 24PA if you are shooting 1080i, not 720p.

Are you sure? I thought you could shoot 24pA when shooting 720. I know you can with the HVX-200.

So even if it’s not called “24pA”, as I understand it you can still shoot:

720 24p at 59.94, then when capturing with the Advanced Pulldown Button checked you end up editing with clips that are 23.98. Is this right?

To me it sounds just like 24pA.

Directly from my manual. Recording and over the SDI output, you get:

System Mode – Camera Mode – Video signals
    1080i/59.94i – 60i – 60i
    1080i/59.94i – 30p – 30p Over 60i
    1080i/59.94i – 24p – 24p Over 60i (2-3 Pulldown)
    1080i/59.94i – 24pA – 24p Over 60i (2-3 3-2 Pulldown)
    1080i/50i – 50i – 50i
    1080i/50i – 25P – 25P over 50i
    720-59.94p – 60p – 60p
    720-59.94p – 30p – 30p Over 60p
    720-59.94p – 24p – 24p Over 60p (2-3 Pulldown)
    720-50p – 50p – 50p
    720-50p – 25p – 25p Over 50p

So my question is when you capture the format, (720-59.94p – 24p – 24p Over 60p (2-3 Pulldown)), you check the box in FCP that says “Remove Advanced Pulldown (2:3:3:2)” which will give you 23.98.

How is this different form the 1080 format that is called 24pA? Doesn’t the 24pA mean that you will extract flagged frames to get 23.98?

    Thanks

    Jeff
