Well as I stated earlier this year I fully expected the Varicam pricing to do the same as the dramatic price drop with the SDX-900.

It happened yesterday the Varicam list price has dropped to $45K.

It clearly indicates the “H” will be disappearing from the line and replaced with something else soon maybe even NAB 2007.

Varicam 3 the cinestyle version was shown last year privately but I doubt it will be released at NAB 07 but we can all still wish for the best.

Panasonic mentioned at Varicamp in July that the next Varicam was still three years away and did mention they were working on the cine style system. Didn’t sound like it was that far along in July anyway. They were still looking for input on its design. Market may not let them wait three years but, I think the pressure is probably coming more from the low end cameras then the high end.

The price drop will probably help them sell a few more Varicams. It positions it between the HDX900/XDCAM prices and the F900. The Varicam is still a fine camera. I don’t think its going anywhere soon.

Cine Style Varicam? Does anyone have any more info? I hope it has a color finder!

I didn’t hear any specifics. I don’t think it’s being thought of as a Varicam. It seemed like it was a separate project.

They specifically said the Varicam 2 is three years away and they had just started work on it.All this stuff changes daily of course. If they did come out with a Varicam 2 at NAB I’d be surprised but, I’d get over it.
