  Varicam bluescreen – any issues?

  Hi,

  We are using a Varicam (using the “film like” video gamma) shooting in 60Hz and 60FPS for eventual speed corrected (slow-mo) transfer to HDCAM 50i. We want to do some blue screen shots. Does anyone know of any issue doing blue screen with the above configuration? I have heard the odd murmur about Varicam and bluescreen so any info would be appreciated.

  All digital cameras store the most of noise in the blue channel. Hence one of the reasons for green screen development.
  It is recommended that for the highest quality acquisition for any Keying, if possible, to record outside of the camera to an external deck, either D5 or SR. However the 4:2:2 colorspace that the Varicam records to is very high quality and many people work with the content as is from the camera.

  As Gary said…GREEN screen, not blue. Also make sure that you evenly light the green screen. I had a DICKENS of a time pulling a key with two colors of green screen and shadows and bright sunlight in spots. Even lighting.

  Make sure no action goes outside the green screen. Rotoscoping is very time consuming.
