Did you do a poll of your clients to ask if you actually have any request or actual work for HD shooting or are you just speculating.
Don’t make the mistake of creating the need when no need actual exist.
With the expense of the entire package you should take the time to research how much actual work will be created.

June 21, 2006 at 5:51 amThanks for your reply. Yes some our clients are certainly looking for High Definition material for archiving. I have never done so much research before buying a camera, feels like I have taken a stepped back 20 years to the dawn of digital video.

June 22, 2006 at 12:24 pm10 years ago you would pay more for an SD camera package, NLE and deck than you do now for a comparable HD setup. Most folks (the smart ones) are charging way more for HD than they do for SD (in my market about 50% more on average) and clients are agreeing to these rates without complaint.
Add to this that financing rates are at an all time low and you get higher revenue with lower costs. You also get to differentiate yourself as a high end provider in your market. The only complication is all the providers selling HDV as an HD equivalent but that will work itself out as clients become educated about the formats. Clients still like the “big” camera on the job. Dive in to HD, the water is fine.

June 23, 2006 at 12:42 pmEveything I have heard is anecdotal and it is all very positive. The buzz is that Sony has left the barn door open by going 1/2″ with their mid range offering and that the Pani alternative is going to have a huge amount of market uptake. Here in Canada I’m told that the first release of the HDX900 cameras is pretty much sold out. Of course, you can’t believe everything you hear……
