  • Should we purchase a 1200A or 1400 deck?

Posted by Ray Palmer on June 7, 2006 at 7:05 pm

All we do is use the deck as an FCP feeder deck via firewire and then lay back via firewire.
I know the 1400 can do insert edits, other than that is there something else we need to consider?

The 1400 is a good deal because it gives you the built-in FW and SDI downconvertors that are optional on the 1200. Still if you only need as a feeder you might find a 1200 used for cheaper.

I believe that I heard that the cost of the 1200A was being lowered due to the 1400 coming out.
    Anyone else hear that too?

That would be logical but I have heard nothing about it yet.

    All,

We announced at NAB that the Suggested List Price of the AJ-HD1200A is reduced to $21,000 including both option cards. Check your nearest Panasonic Reseller for the best deal.

Whats the MSRP of the 1400? Notable features?

The AJ-HD1400 does everything the HD1200A does but adds the functions of insert and assemble editing. Also the HD1400 has the capability of recording metadata. There are no options for the HD1400 as the option cards in the HD1200A are now included. MSRP for the HD1400 is $25K. Delivery will be the end of July.

    Thanks,

Is the 1400P the same as the 1400? Is this letter just an ‘add-on’ like the 1200 has an ‘A’ on it?

    Thanks.

The 1400 is a considerable improvement, first off it does insert and assemble editing which is critical for lay off. In addition it has built in gamma correction which you can use to play in to your NLE and of course it’s got the two optio9n cards built in. At this point you’d only be able to buy a used 1200A, which I would not advise.

Thanks John. Is the 1400 a different model from the 1400P ?

I believe the deck is only made in one version.
