    Hello chaps,

    I have a situation where I have created and worked on a comp (running at 23.974fps) in which I accidentally imported an image sequence at 30fps before working on it. In fact I’ve done a few of these, so I’m hoping that there’s a way i can use all my original keyframe data (mesh warps, and translation) on some footage imported at the correct rate of 23.974, rather that re-do all the leg work.

    any ideas?

    Go to the sequence in ur project bin. Rt Click. Choose “interperate footage”. Change the frame rate to 23.976.

    Done.

    cheers for the idea, however, I’ve tried that already, but what happens is the keyframes I’ve placed align with different points in the video.

    any other thoughts are most welcome.

    Cheers for the heads up Dave, I thought as much too, the trouble is I’m creating looping videos of people, so all my keyframes are really precise so I can’t very easily identify matching frames between rates. Also, the keyframes may have many keyframes in a 10 frame range (for example) so I wonder how to scale those as one unit but keep that in ratio with the footage.

    Do you happen to know a mathematical solution at all?

    Unless someone knows of a script. There is no way to be precise. You can stretch your keyframes as a whole but it will never line up exact and some keyframes will land between actual frames in the timeline. You will spend more time messing with a way to do it in an automated fashion in my opinion. So just bite the bullet and do it by hand. Ive made mistakes like this when I was starting out and I still get busy and make them today occasionally. Lesson learned, and you wont do it again I bet.

    You can select a group of keyframes and alt-drag the first or last one to adjust them proportionately in time. I’d make sure I had a keyframe on the first and last frames of the footage to make it easy to line up, then I’d re-interpret the footage at 23.976 and alt-drag all keyframes out to the new duration.

    You could also precomp your image sequence, then use a time stretch (30/23.976 = 125.125125%) to correct it.

    Be aware that you may have some improperly placed keyframes because of the mismatch between your viewing frame rate (the comp) and the footage frame rate. Ae would have dropped/duplicated frames to fit the 30>23.976 conversion if frame blending was off, or would have made up new frames if frame blending was on originally. Some noodling might be required, so I’d be inclined to go the alt-drag route to make it easier.

    Hey I believe Andrew Kramer has a plug in for this exact situation. https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/frame_rate_converter/. It converts your frame rate to whatever you want it to be, but then adjusts the speed to the intended real time. Thank God for Andrew Kramer! Hope that helps.

    Using any kind of frame rate conversion will mean synthesizing new frames and probably creating some blobby visual artifacts. This is a great technique for dealing with footage in a foreign frame rate when you have no other choice, but I wouldn’t recommend it as a first choice here, since all the original frames are already there.

    The keyframe alt-drag technique I mentioned earlier should sort this out in a couple seconds.
