    Varicam24p / AJ-HD1200a workflow questions:

I’ve recently started editing a DVCPRO HD production, shot on a Varicam at 24p, although some of the 60 or so camera tapes (more to come) were shot at 60i/30p. Plus, there

I think that compressor is the way for you to go.

Compressor uses Shakes optical flow technology and does a very smooth 30 to 24P conversion. I did extensive testing of this workflow for a 24P project that had 59.94 footage in it. This produced the best results

    I would

    1. Dub to DVCpro50 30i
    2. Capture
    3. Createa acompressor setup that converts 30 to 24 at highest quality.
    4. Batch render the movies to the codec you are editing in.
    5. Import and edit

The resuting movies are like you camera tapes and will be seemlessly integrated. You could even do all of your 4×3 to anamorphic cropping convert to anamorphic if you wanted to.

    Dan,

As regards the DVPRO25/50 upconvert from the 1200A, it actually is in the manual; but it only comes out the HD-SDI spigot, not the firewire, so a work around is to use two 1200A’s one to play back and upconvert and the second to record. Then play the recording into FCP through the firewire. It is labor and machine intensive, but possible!

The up/downconverter lives on the HD-SDI board, and the firewire board has no was to see it.
