Hello – I would be grateful if anyone had a moment to consider a few queries I have – we are about to post a project shot on Varicam at 23.98fps and digistising on a 1200A into either MC Adrenalin 2.1.5 or Xpress Pro 5.x

    1. My biggest quandry is which project to choose. The most obviously relevant projects types are “23.98 NTSC” and “720p/23.98”. Both of these work – so which is the most appropriate?
    2. The two decks on offer are “1200A 24p” or “1200A 60”. The 24p does not work in the 23.98 NTSC project. The 1200A 60 does. Again which direction should I be heading. I assume the 1200A 60 refers to the actual total of frames recorded per second by the varicam, no matter what frame rate is selected by the camera user.
    3. What sync should be fed to the NLE? 23.98 or 29.97. Won’t both projects natively be working in NTSC and therefore need 29.97 reference?

If anyone could clarify these issues for me I would be very grateful.

720p 23.98 will keep you in HD and allow you the greatest flexibility later. it keeps you in the Native DVCPROHD format

well one is SD and One is HD the HD is still progressive

Doh… one is 23.98 HD that needs progressive HD displays that your avid may not have. the 60 version is giving you a “more” NTSC compatible format that is playing out at 29.97 — remember that 24p footage does appear to strobe when playing back if you are not working on something that adds the 3:2 pulldown back in.

HD needs a Tri level sync signal —
