  • Any problems editing down-converted 24fps footage in SD?

I will be shooting in 24fps, then down-converting to Digi-Beta for SD 4:3 editing. (Will not need to edit in HD).

Are there any issues with the 3:2 induced in-camera when editing the DigiBeta tapes in SD 59.94?

Why bother to down-convert to Digital BetaCam? Just load your NLE directly from the Panasonic deck using the built-in down-conversion.

One note; when editing material with the 3/2 pull-down, you may wish to edit only on frames that keep the sequence in order just as you would editing video that has been telecined from film at 24 fps.

I’m told that breaking the cadence can cause problems on DVD’s and sets that automatically try to remove the pull-down. I do have to say that I’ve seen a million spots that do not follow this rule.

    Good shooting!

    Leo thanks.

I’m not editing on my NLE. I’m going to a facility with a Quantel Editbox.
They are requesting DigiBeta. The spot is going for broadcast only, not DVD.

The Ouantel Editbox is an NLE. It’s slow and buggy as hell, but it’s still just an NLE.

This still makes no difference, unless, of course, they don’t have a DVCPro HD deck.

    Good luck,

Leo brings up a very important point in avoiding breaking the cadence sequence if you intend on removing the 3:2 later.

It will indeed cause issues later which you want to avoid at all costs.
