HD capture card for Varicam
Posted by Thomas Kaufman on May 6, 2005 at 7:38 pmHi, everyone,
Does Panasonic have any plans to make an HD capture card for Varicam, similar to the one for the SDX 900?
thanks

May 7, 2005 at 12:21 amSteve, I had heard that an SD card on the SDX 900 allows the camera to continually capture a certain amount (like 40 seconds or so) of video and audio without tape rolling.
Thanks,

I think you mean the Pre-Precord option. That acts like a 10 second memory cache for the SDX900…saves missing shots in fast situations like breaking news etc. That’s an internal option card fo rthe SDX900, it’s not the SD card. The SD card is used for loading / saving scene files.
The Pre-REC option is not available on the VariCam, as the camera was designed two years before the SDX900. Rest assured future HD and SD cameras will be based upon P-2, those will feature Pre-Record and a bunch of other goodies…
Cheers!

The new Panasonic 1080i camera, model AJ-HDX400 includes a pre-record function that can be set for up to 10 seconds. This function is included with the camera, not an option as it is built-in. Also one more function that many people asked for is a built-in down converter with NTSC Composite out. This too is not an option but built-in to the camera out of the box.
