  • Mixing AF101 footage with Canon 7D or 5D footage

Filmmaking pals – has anyone tried mixing Panasonic AF101 footage with Canon 7D footage – decent zoom lenses, no primes, if the Canon is handheld it’d be on a mount.
How big a difference in visual experience are we talking…
    thanks in advance

I’m shooting material that I hope to use in the final film, but don’t have easy access to an AF101 – so thinking of shooting with the available Canon 7D for now…

The original footage is from an AF-100?
You are getting some pick up shots with a 7D?

If this is the case you should be fine if your color grading the edit. They won’t match out of the camera but you can get close in post. The contrast will be greater with the 7D. It’s a hard question to answer but if that’s your only option you can make it work.

hey there, thanks for the response – I’m anticipating going into production with the AF101, but I haven’t used it yet. Will probably have to use the 7D for this portion of it, and I definitely want to use what I’m shooting now (over the next 2 weeks) in the final production. It’s a doc.

AbelCine has a list of AF100 Scene Files, one of which they called the 5DmkII and I think it gets close to all Canon DSLRs. It could make mixing them simplified. Anyway the list of scene files is here: https://blog.abelcine.com/2011/04/06/af100-scene-files-created-by-abelcine/
