I have been using a DV2500 deck for a while and I have started to experience the problems everyone else has been facing even after two repairs. I would like to get a new deck and I am stuck between two options. Get another one of the Sony M15U which I have and which plays great no matter what tape I throw at it. Or should I get the cheapest DVCPro deck from Panasonic and use DV tapes on it around 90% of the time. It is a hard one because I do not know if the DV tapes will damage the DVCPro deck or what – basically ignoring price, which one do you think will last longer?

    Hi,

The Sony Deck is not a DVCPRO Deck, it is a HDV/DVCAM deck that will also play DV. It does not play any DVCPRO format, which is based on a metal particle tape.

That said, if you have any HDV footage then I would buy another one of these as it covers your DV world and the fact that aall of these formats are on the Metal Evaporated tape, no harm is done by playing one and then another.

    Hope this helps,

    Jan

I understand this but I am worried I will damage the DVCPro deck by playing too many DV tapes on it.
