  Timecode Break

  Hi,
  I’m having Timecode Break problems when capturing in FinalCut 5.1. How do I avoid Timecode Break when shooting with the DVX100? Thanks.

  Timecode breaks are points on the tape where footage is not continuous. Typically in the field this occurs when you switch to VCR mode to play a shot and then go past the shot before switching back to camera mode, creating a space between recorded clips with actual timecode. Any spot on the tape that has nothing recorded on it will be a timecode break.

  Best way to avoid this is record a little extra at the end of each take. That way you can play back and then stop playback while still at the tail of a take. Then when you switch back to camera mode there will be no space between shots.

  Our DVX tapes always have TC breaks. Not so with our higher level DSR 300/500 cameras. Tell FCP to ignore them.
