Other than the consideration of a film-out, how many of you prefer the 24P look to the 30P look with the DVX100? I worked with an accomplished film director in Honolulu for many years and he still shoots 35mm film at 30fps when doing spot and video work. In the new smaller DV camcorders I always saw an objectionable juddering on pans….interviews looked great.

Is there any reason that you couldn’t shoot interviews in 24P (very little motion, but gives a more convincing impression of film frame rate), and shoot all Broll at 30P (more motion, higher chance of having to slo mo a clip etc) and digitize everything at 60i and let the deck do the math? We have the Panasonic 1200A deck.

One last thing…I assume that this camera cannot record DVCPro50? It is not mentioned anywhere.

No to DVCPRO50 for that you want an HVX200.

Personally I find the look of 30p undesirable- it looks more like video than film to my eyes. But yes 30p and 24p can be mixed if the 24p keeps it pulldown and both are placed on a 60i timeline. But the options for native 24p DVD and filmout are pretty much out the window.

The DP from “On the Lot” uses 30p hmm. So is that a recommendation for or against? 🙂

In the eyes of the beholder I guess, whatever they’re doing On The Lot I’ll be doing the opposite. What a godawful show…

I’ve shot many a project on the DVX that looked great. As great as DVCPRO50 or an HVX200- no. But then again the price is not the same either.
