Even using recommended settings and the ‘rec check’ button on my dvx I’m still having time code break issues. One thing that I have yet to try is simply recording through an entire dv tape before going out and using it in the field. I was wondering, are there any down sides to doing this? Does recording over previously recorded dv tape compromise the quality of my work? As always, thanks for the insight.

TC breaks are caused when the end of one recording doesn’t overlap the beginning of the next. I always run a few extra seconds at the end of every take before cutting. Then if I have to review a shot, I stop playback withing those extra seconds so that the next recording starts with continuous timecode. Don’t forget it will also happen at times when you switch batteries without rewinding a second or two afterwards.
