24p not 24p”a”
Hello,
I shot some footage with the dvx-100 in regular 24p mode, rather than 24p”A”. The camera is the older model manufactured in 2002, I assumed it was different from the “100a”.
Since the stuff was shot in just 24p I wanted to know what I am in store for when working with it. Also I want to use the footage for special effects, I assumed the progressive mode the footage was shot with would help with that since it wasn’t, again I assume, interlaced.
Can you provide me with some info on what kind of dillemma, if any, I’m getting into.Thank you

If you are staying in the NTSC world you can simply leave the pulldown intact and treat as 29.97. If you wish to go native 23.98 you would need to remove the pulldown manually. In FCP for example you’d use CinemaTools.

I am staying in the realm of ntsc, but if the footage stays in 29.97 with the added cadence, is it not progressive anymore?

It is 24p “baked” into 60i NTSC compatible video. Do a google search if you’d like to learn more about exactly how the camera works.

Just finished editing a nightmarish project on Avid Adrenaline HD – footage was shot in 24p, 24pA and 30i. Edited it in a 23.975 project – that was a mistake. I was told everything was going to be 24p. Aah well…
Make sure you edit it in a 30i project – this way pulldowns from 24p will match if you find out the DP forgot to check what mode the rented camera was in on Tuesday. “…But it was fine on Monday…” – grrrrrr.
