Digitizing 24p footage with non 24p camera
Posted by Burnsaichris on October 19, 2005 at 8:01 pmI’m having a heck of a time removing a 3/2 pulldown from some footage a friend gave me. I’ve tried everything. The footage was shot on a DVX 100 in 24p standard mode, but digitized into FCP with a cheapo non 24p dv camera. Is this a problem? Can you digitize footage that was shot 24p with a non 24p camera? I would think not, but what do I know!

October 20, 2005 at 1:29 amhmm..with all due respect.. after reading that explanation, I’m even more confused.
I am new to the whole 24P, 24pA and film conversion world… I am respected in the field for my composition, lighting, interview style, etc… but learning about all of the 24P stuff is alien to me. Of course, I am interested in finding out all the details and I realize that there is a fairly steep learning curve with this new camera…but um, is there anyone else who might be able to offer a more simplified version to help answer “BurnsaiChris”‘s original question. I too am interested.
I’d like to know if I’ll have any trouble with the following scenario:
shooting in 24P mode (NOT 24pA mode) and then using my good ole sony gvd-300 minidv deck to digitize into FCP with the my “standard” DV NTSC 48kHtz capture preset
(now, noah, you got a little huffy with one of my earlier posts, so please don’t take this reply the wrong way….thanks 🙂

October 20, 2005 at 7:12 amIf you are planning to stay in the NTSC world with no plans for a filmout or 24p native DVD then that would work fine. Sorry for being huffy- I recently switched to decaf.
