I am using an AG-DVX100. I couple of times I have had timecode breaks show up on my tapes. In one case I suspect the tape. Another time, it was definitely the camera. My question is: Are there any cameras out there that can tell you when there are time code problems.

It is quite annoying to tape all day only to find out when I get back to a deck that I have timecode problems. Sometimes I can preview the tapes in the camera in the field, but this is not always a reliable way to check.

    thanks

Previewing is probably what is causing the breaks. A break will occur anytime there is a blank space in between takes- even one frame. Best practice is to always start recording a few seconds before action and stop a few after cut. Then if you need to review or turn off the power you have a little overlap you can rewind into in order to make sure you are not leaving a gap.

also if you ever do look at footage in the field it is noce to use the end search function on the camera. This cues the VTR up to the last frame you recorded. Most breaks are caused by pwer downs or (in 24P mode) fast stop starts.
