    Hello,

Lately when I playback in VCR mode I think my camera is dropping frames or pixels. It looks like big pixels moving around, mostly on the right side of the screen. The timecode doesn’t start up, or it stutters and an ‘*’ pops up on the screen display between ‘TC’ and the actual timecode. It settles after about 5 seconds and it seems fine after that, but it is a pain when capturing footage, plus I just bought this camera 5 months ago and I want it to work properly. Does anyone know of any solutions? I’ve tried using a TDK MiniDV Head Cleaner but that didn’t work and I looked in the manual but that doesn’t even show what the ‘*’ means. I’d appreciate any feedback.

    Thanks in advance.

I’d suggest having it serviced- sounds like the heads could use a professional cleaning. This is even more likely the case if you’ve used different brands of DV tape stocks over the life of the cam.

That’s what I’ve been told by the merchant. He said the same thing about using different tapes, which I have been doing. I had never heard that before, but I’ll start using one brand now. Do you suggest any brand over another. I hope you say Panasonic because I just bought ten of them.

    Thanks for the response.

The Panasonic MQ63 tapes have served me very well over the years.
