Cross-posted in the Avid Media Composer Forum…

    Greetings all,
Hoping to prove the axiom of “a little knowledge can be a very dangerous thing”, I’m hoping to get some info on editing in 24p in MCA v1.6

We’re learning that material for the web shot in 24p is better because of the progressive way of scanning, so we’re testing this theory w/a Panasonic DVX-100A.

My question(s) to you all is should we use the firewire connection on the camera to create the media files in MCA?

Can we use any DV deck supported by Avid to do this? Anything special we ought to be aware of?

I’ve created a project in MCA at 24p, and am going to proceed from there. I guess (finally!)I’m wondering if there is anything materially different about MCA when editing in 24p versus 30i?

    Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated,

    Tim

If you intend to edit at 23.98- you must shoot at 24p standard and then treat the footage the same as you would telecined film material on a Media Composer. Capture at 29.97 and reverse telecine to get it to 23.98.
