Using Mixed Frame Rates in a Project
Is anyone using (what I’ll call)mixed frame rates in a single project?
Having just received a DVX, and beginning production on nature documentary for regional Public TV, I’m considering using 24p w/letterbox for my on-camera interviews and using standard 60i for all the “outdoor” or nature shots, and other b-roll.
Final posting will be done on a Media 100 v.6 w/mastering on to digibeta.
Thoughts? Comments? Smart remarks?

If you need a quick answer, you might look at an earlier post on this forum about a week ago. If you do a search on this forum for the term “24p and 60i”, you will find an answer Noah gave to this question. For what it is worth, I just thought I would pass the link on.

Very easy to do. Since the 24p footage is written to tape in an NTSC-compliant 60i data stream, you can freely intermix both of them, provided a) you’re editing on a 60i timeline, and b) you don’t bother removing pulldown from the 24p file. Just capture the 24p file as DV and it’ll intermix with 60i, but provide a very different “look” from the 60i video.
Also, for this circumstance, you’d want to shoot 24P Normal mode, not 24P Advanced.

Also, I’ve greatly enjoyed your DVD and book that came with my DVX. Your knowledge, and willingness to share it in the various forums, is GREATLY appreciated. If only EACH piece of equipment I use came with such resources!
