anamorphic/ wideangle lense question
Ok I think I’m a little off but I’m gonna ask anyway. I am in need of a wide angle lense, I’m considering the Century optics .3 (ultra fisheye) I considered the nifty DIY found here: https://www.neilslade.com/Papers/DVXlens.html but my friend said there was a huge dif between the raynox quality and century optics and I do have the money for a century… My question is though I heard somewhere the anamorphic lense also served as a wideangle. I can understand this if it is 16:9 but if that footage is put back into 4:3 then it loses the “wideangle” that it originally got. Is that a correct assumption? I ask cuz I’d love to be able to buy the anamorphic and have it also serve as a wide angle as i heard it would but my common sense seems to tell me this would not work.

It wouldn’t work. The anamorphic converts your footage to be 16:9. Trying to scale that to 4:3 would seriously compromise your image.
The anamorphic adds a 33% wider field of view while converting it to 16:9, so in that sense it is also a wide-angle adapter, but only for 16:9 footage. It has no applicability for a 4:3 environment.
