DVX100A Audio level distortion issue- narrow “sweet spot”
Recently did a shoot where I worked with an experienced audio tech who was running a mixer and line to my camera (setup included boom mic, set, actors) as well as recording a DAT backup version.
We were baffled by the narrow range between good, solid audio, and the sound to tape going into distortion too easily (was fine on the DAT, fortunately.)
We tried at -50 and -60 settings, adjusting the level inputs, but the problem vexed us throughout the shoot. Setting the ALC to “on” seemed to help a bit, but did not eliminate the trouble completely.
