I have recently discovered the joy of shooting in 24p but have some pulldown-related questions. FYI – I edit with FCP HD and Vegas Video 4 and output for broadcast at 29.97.

Should I be shooting in 24p (2:3) or 24p advanced (2:3:3:2)? Are there pros and cons to either format? Is one better for high-motion footage and the other for low-motion? Will either affect my ability to edit? I’ve noticed some stuttering during dissolves from 2:3 pulldown work and figured out not to have Vegas remove the plldown before editing. There are so many different combinations of uses for 24p that I’m confused by it all! Any help is appreciated…

The Advance shooting mode does away with the frame with fields from adjoining frames.

This site does a great job explaining the differences.

    The answer is: if you’re editing on a 24P timeline, shoot 24PA (2:3:3:2). If you’re editing on a 60i timeline, shoot 24P (2:3).
