I do live events, I will be using P2 cards to capture, and have capability to upload during the 12 hour event.

BIG question, what type of computer and software do I need?

I will bedoing very little editing of clips…adding a overlay tittle, then burn a bluray dvd, with multiple chapters or clips

    your help is greatly appreciated

I am using an hpx500 and panasonic card reader

    THANK YOU

[Lee Hopper] “BIG question, what type of computer and software do I need?”

Well…pretty much anything will do it, software wise. Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere work with the MXF files the camera produces natively…but you still need to copy the files from the cards to a media drive, AND back them up. FCP wraps the footage into QUicktime. FOr that workflow, you can watch this: Tapeless Workflow for FCP 7 Tutorial

So pretty much any major editing application will do.

Computer? Well, on the Mac side, MacPro, MacBook Pro…iMac, MacMini…will all work. Firewire 800 drive will playback the footage fine

BLURAY encoding? You need Toast 10 or Adobe Encore.

In case you work with FCP, Raylight software might be helpful. It creates instantly .mov reference files and can be imported to FCP without time consuming Log/Transfer.
