    Hello master filmmakers,

I am shooting a feature film on the HVX200.
What are the best camera settings to use in the recording format
to ensure that later I can “blowup” to theatrical?

I use the “advanced” pulldown, not 3:2 right?
    I use 1080i? 720p?
    Which do you prefer?
What about shutter speeds? Some say 1/24, others 1/50, some say turn it off.

    Best,
    Alex

I researched this extensively and found those results:

-If you are going to be doing slow motion, stick to 720P
-If you want more resolution 1080P is more beneficial, but if you wanna slow down footage after the fact you got to use the right tools, like “twixtor”
-1/48 and cinelike gamma are best to use, for print to film use 24PA
-for blowups, dont use “OIS” feature which used to mimimize camera shake

Most importantly is to be realistic, are you really printing to film. If this is for festivals, most will run from a digital projector whether its 16 by 9 widescreen, 720 or 1080P. so another words, know your destination format.

P.S. you were likely not getting a response since your subject line contained the word “help”, dont ask why, just letting you know. I had to omit the word in the subject line when i replied.

    hey Rosh,

    Thank you for your help.

what is 1/48? is that the recommended shutter speed?
    That’s not a choice on the HVX200.
Do you recommend 1/24, 1/60? Some have told me when shooting for FILMCAM to use 180d?

Secondly, regarding REC FORMAT, I have been told 1080i24PA. My goal is to get this into film festivals, and get it into theaters, but if only DVD that is also fine. I was of the opinion, shoot at the highest resolution, since it’s harder to blow up if you have less info. Thoughts?

    Thanks.
Please respond ASAP if you can – I am shooting this sunday.
