  Corrupted P2 Card

  Hi,

  I just went to capture a 32gb and an 8gb P2 card onto a Mac and when I dragged the files and them pulled them up in the log and transfer window in Final Cut they were all corrupted.

  Now when I put the cards back into the camera there are Red X’s on all my files.

  I didn’t write protect my cards either which I think was the problem and now I am really stressed out.
  I was unfamiliar with this camera and was not aware of this.

  Is there some way I can recover my footage?

  Please help, I can’t lose this footage.

  One important practice is to avoid drag and drop for files. It was recommended to actually clone the card through the disk utility. I don’t know if this is your problem but I know that when you drag and drop some of the folders could be out of order. It’s rare but it could happen. However, I don’t think this would affect the card. Another simple reason for the red x’s would be that your camera is not in the same system format that you shot them in. You need to play back clips in the same format they were shot in.

  P.S. Did you try to repair the clips in the camera?

  I’m unable to repair the clips in the camera and I haven’t changed any settings in the camera either since I shot.

  It was all shot on HD1080 and its still on that setting.

  Is it possible that the deck I used to capture the P2 cards could have corrupted my card?

  I know that I could play back the files fine in the camera before I put them into the deck.

  Possibly- one thing that happens is if you don’t engage the write protect tab and the card is nearly full a computer can write a few tiny files back into the card as part of standard HD indexing and cause the card to become unreadable…
