  • Convert Layer Effect to Mask Keyframes?

Posted by Eric Nord on May 10, 2013 at 4:02 am

If I apply a Wipe effect to a static shape (or mask or text), is it possible to then convert it to a series of masks, which then work without applying the effect?

In other words, it would be like doing a Mask Interpolation that includes the effect.

Put differently, I want to convert the effect animation to keyframes.

I guess what I’m asking is whether the wipe effect is a raster or vector effect. And if it is a raster effect, is there any way to convert it to vector?

    Thanks!!

IF you use solid/flat colors for at least one of the transition layer, you can follow that up, in a nested composition with Auto-trace to create your mask.

One major issue that may crop up is with the edges of the layers. I suggest that your layers and precomps be sized about 20% larger than the ‘final comp’ to preclude having to fix unwanted/enexpected edge issues after applying Auto-trace.

Lastly, the Wipe transition is a raster effect.
