HVX 200 HD format.
Hello gentleman,
I am planing to shoot my first short on a Panasonic HVX200, I am looking for advise as far is approaching the film motion and look, camera settings as well. I had read articles about shooting 60! to later convert to 24p, is ti better than shooting straight 24p?. Also the HD format, can anyone post any experiences with 10801, 1080p, 720p and their frame rates?.

If you want the 24p look you should shoot in 24p, it makes no sense to do it 60i. The conversion will never look as good plus it adds a lot of render time, and it is easier to go up to 29.97 from 23.98 if you need to later.
720p @ 24p (23.98) gives you the most versatility since you can do the speed adjustments in camera. You also get the longest record time (24pN). The key is to pick one format and stick with it. It is also very easy to cross convert the project when completed, so if you shot in 720p and later need a 1080i master all you need is a system with a Kona3 card (or IoHD) and it will spit out a 1080i (or other way around).
Even though the camera can do doth i kind of think of it as a 720P camera,

I second Michael here and also note what Noah has mentioned several times; this camera’s “sweet spot” is 720Pn 24fps. I never shoot any other format with it and can upconvert to 1080i at any time if I need to. I have been spoiled and actually can’t stand interlaced video anymore.
