Greetings. I just read that one can perform an in-camera down-convert from 720pn24 on a P2 to miniDV tape. Seems like it might not be a bad idea just to get SOME kind of tape backup of your footage.

My question is this: since we’re cycling cards during production, is it possible to write files BACK to a P2 card to perform this process in camera after wrapping for the day? Seems like a lot of trouble, but I’d like to consider it as a “belt-and-suspenders” approach.

    Thanks!

Yes. WHy you’d want to do this is kind of silly, but it’s possible. It’d be a lot easier and faster to just bring an extra hard drive and back up your footage twice.

FYI…in case you didn’t know (some people don’t realize this)…the MiniDV drive records at the DV codec…not DVCPRO HD and not HDV. Some people are confused by this. I’m not sure about your familiarity with the camera, so don’t take offense if you already knew this. Again, many people don’t.
