HPX500 and HVX200 Stolen
Hi:
Just a heads up to people who might see some “deals” on Craigslist or eBay coming up in the next few days. We had a burglary in our offices in downtown Seattle over the previous weekend and had a bunch of gear stolen including a brand new HPX500P with Fujinon lens and a one-year old HVX200.
I can post serial numbers but really, I’d just like people here to know that if you spot a deal, please let me know as it may be “hot” gear. I somehow doubt they’d be dumb enough to post on C/L but who knows…

Typically burglars who steal that sort of stuff have no clue how to use it, so they might try to sell it.
Also check pawn shops.

We also put a reward up on C/L for the return of the data from some of the Drobo and RAID arrays that were stolen and actually just had a phone call from a trucker who *might* have our goods…
But yes, pawn shops are also being scoured. 😉

That is why everyone should have insurance.
My car was broken into last year. They were going for my GPS unit which as mounted on my dash. Now I always remove it when I am not in the car. Over $8000 of video gear including a brand new FS-100 and Powerbook was in my backpack. I wish they would have taken my DSR-300 which was in the back.
Insurance paid for the replacement cost of the items stolen.
I came out ahead with new equipment but would not want to experience it again.
My brand new HPX-500 is protected at all times.

I can’t speak for Steve but I can say that yes, insurance will pay for lost data but it’s cold, cold comfort.
To be honest, as much as I’d like the cameras returned, I would rather have my 2 Drobo enclosures, 1 Burly SATA RAID, 1Tb MyBook, 2 OWC Mercury RAID drives and Quad Core G5 back. 😉 Upwards of 6 years of work down the crapper… I manage to back up everyone else’s drives but my own. I’ll re-phrase that: I did back up my work, just not to any drive that was taken off-site regularly. How the hell does one carry home 5 Tb of data!!!
Dammit, now I’m mad again… 😉
