  Is my Mac ready for p2 editing?

  Hey All,

  Searched and couldn’t find my answer, so I’m posting.

  We’re shooting 1080p with the HVX-200 this week and using the FS100 FireStore. It’s my first time editing with true HD, and I need to edit brief sequences to deliver to my Motion designer. Want to buy the Power Mac, but I don’t have time before my deadline. Can my trusty Mac handle it?

  Specs:
  Final Cut Pro 6.0.3 (Final Cut Studio 2)
  Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5
  4 GB DDR SDRAM
  L2 Cache per CPU: 512 KB
  Bus Speed: 1 GHz
  plenty of external HD space

  It’s pretty simple stuff… some cross-fades is the extent of it, not a lot of heavy rendering, etc. It recently worked like a champ on a large, complicated project shot with Z1U on HDV.

  Any obstacles or problems you foresee?

  It should work okay. FCP 6 was apparently built on the Intel architecture so it will be slower than on an Intel machine by quite a bit, especially when you get into the heavy rendering. Best of luck.

  P2 at 1080p doesn’t require a lot of horsepower. That is the machine I used when I started cutting DVCPRO HD, and it is still is use. No problems whatsoever…very solid machine.

  And DVCPRO HD is easier to handle than HDV…so you are in for a treat.
