modifying the HVX’s embedded linux kernel
It would be great if someone could tell me if this is possible and possibly point me in the direction of the source code for linux kernel (if Panasonic has released it). I want to modify the autoexposure function for the HVX so it uses a different shutter speed to record every other frame. So all even frames would be recorded with one shutter speed and all odd frames with another. A simple enough change one would think.
I’ve done some googling and it looks Panasonic has not released source code because they have not updated it. Is this true, am I **** out of luck? Some really cool things could be done if I could get the hvx to record in this way.

You can’t slam between shutter speeds every other frame…

Panasonic probably doesn’t let you mess with their camera’s OS precisely so guys like you don’t hose their cameras and clog the repair channel in place of legit warranty fixes.

This isn’t possible. The firmware that is the Linux part of the camera that makes all of the pperations possible is not user accessable.
Sounds like an effect you could do in After Effects though.

My hope was to write some software that would take all these odd/even frames from the HVX and make an hdr stitch of every two frames, giving an increase in dynamic range while only loosing the ability to do some slow motion. Similar to what they did with a programmable camera in this paper.

Decent idea and one I suspect we’ll possibly see on cameras some day but not possible with this one…
