I own an HDX900 and love it. I am considering adding an HVX200 to my inventory but I don’t want to get caught in a “end of life” scenario. Only looking at Panasonic right now

Anyone have a crystal ball as to the “next-gen” of this type of camera from Panasonic?

[Pat McGowan] “I don’t want to get caught in a “end of life” scenario”

OUUUUCH… While I get what you are saying “end of life” scenario” is too harsh a phrase to use.

We all remember when Sony intro’d the VX1000 – the 1st 3 chip digital camera that recorded betacam sp quality onto ¼” wide tape in those mini cassettes. The VX1000 was followed by the VX2000; VX-2100; PD-100; PD-150; PD170; and the list goes on and if we add Panasonic, Canon and JVC models it gets huge. My point is I know people who used their VX1000 for about 10 years (even after all these “new and improved” better cameras came out).

Like that 1st mini DV cam of the 90’s the HVX200 is another 1st., a rebel, a pioneer in a new frontier and it will stand the test of time with all the multitudes of followers for the next 10 years. (it’s already served 3 years concurrently although it’s 1st. competitor has only recently shown up on the scene). All the amazing things it does today it will still do 10 years from now.

While I take offense to the phrase “end of life” scenario” I know what you really mean (so sorry for the rant), it’s no fun buying a DVX-100 when next week a DVX-100a is introduced. There have been murmerings of the possibility of sdi added but these are entirely speculations by other people like us – OUTSIDE THE LOOP.

NAB is just around the corner and last I heard Panasonic and Sony are both still going! :‹)

Like you said Rennie the HVX200 is going into the 4th production year so it’s due for a replacement.

Like any other piece of gear there are lots of things I like and dislike about this camera. I do not want to buy one and get stung in a pending new product release………

If you can, wait until April.
