Shooting footage that will be filmed out.

I would love to shoot 24pN and get 40min. on my 16G P2, however
I was told 24pN causes issues when creating NTSC dvd’s, because you need to introduce
pulldown to the footage for the first time (unlike 24p that is over 60, and converts better to 29.97 dvd’s.)

    Any thoughts?
Anyone who has actually gone all the way to film??

    Thanks,

    Michael

    It is fine for DVDs…

It is not fine for broadcast unless you add the pull-down into it.

Most hollywood titles are 24P DVDs, the DVD player adds the pulldown when it is hooked up to a TV that does not handle progressive frames.

    Go with 24pN.

So it sounds like if we want a deliverable that can go to 35mm and broadcast/cable, 24P is the better choice over 24PN? (I’m using FC Studio 2, latest FCP version. No need to use 24PA, right?)

    Thanks,

Are you shooting 720P or 480i? 24pA is an interlaced scheme and is not available (or needed) on 720p.

IF 720P, 24p records 60 (59.94) frames per second by duplicating each frame 2 or 3 times and then they are removed when you ingest the footage. Where as 24pN only records the 24 frames and that is why you get the longer record times.

Once they are ingested there is no difference in your timeline other than the clips TC (the 24p clips will have missing numbers where the duplicate frames are pulled out.

FWIW, this is an old thread and most people will not see a new post only the leaders and people that have subscribed to the thread. Sure are a lot of Michaels in this thread.
