We’re considering buying this monitor (the Pansonic 42″ flat screen) to use with our edit system. Mostly we’ll be using 720/24p footage. The monitor specs say it supports all formats and resolutions, but it just says 720/60P… This seems strange to me. Anyone understand whether this monitor will support 24p?

If you have a capture card, yes. But you send out a 720p 59.94 signal, even if it is 24PN (23.98). VERY FEW people monitor 23.98 natively. It is stroby and hard to watch. But 24p viewed at 59.94 is what is typically done.
