    Hey…

We are about to shoot a short film on the Panasonic HVX 202.

What is the data rate of the HD footage? We have 2 P2 cards, so we will be shooting with one while importing the footage from the other. I just wanted to prepare enough room on the computer to facilitate all the footage that is going to be shot on the day.

Also, is it worth downloading the P2 Workflow (or similar) software? Does this software make life easier? Where should I download it from? The camera kit we are hiring comes with a P2 card reader. Does the reader plug in through fi-wire?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

[Shaun du Sart] “What is the data rate of the HD footage?”

Depends what you shoot. DVCPRO HD 720p 24PN (23.98) is about 5.2MB/s. DVCPRO HD 1080i30 (29.97) is about 20MB/s. This camera shoots 81 different formats.

Depends on what you are doing. Making your life easier…well, that’s up to you. Download it and see. It is a tool for certain workflows. It might not fit all of them. I don’t use it, but that is me. Other people do. Download it and see for yourself.

What reader? Panasonic makes many. A couple connect via firewire…others via USB. USB because you might download to firewire and having the card and drive on separate busses makes that transfer go faster.

Use P2CMS from Panasonic. It’s their offload/database app. Single most valuable feature is the ability to see instantly which clips on a P2 card have been copied (with verify). Warm fuzzy follows.
